Denver Liposuction

Liposuction is a surgical procedure performed by many Denver liposuction qualified surgeons to REFINE your figure. What liposuction is NOT is a weight loss technique used as a quick way to become thinner.

The amounts of fat removed during a liposuction procedure are actually quite small, and the patient does not lose much weight. Many people, after losing most of the weight, have areas of the body that still contain fat and, using liposuction, the surgeon can trim these trouble spots to conform to the slim shape of the rest of the body.

Liposuction can be used by the surgeon to target the stomach, hips, buttocks, thigh, arms, chin and neck and love handles, among others. Even with vigorous exercise fat in these areas often will not go away and the patient must rely on the surgeon to make the final adjustments. Denver liposuction surgeons use instruments that allow them to litterally recontour the patient's body by selecting which areas to remove excess fat from.

Fat is literally vacuumed out of the problem areas with a suction device by the surgeon. Although liposuction has been popular with women for years, men are beginning to use it more, usually to reduce breast size. Not everyone gets the same benefit from the procedure, according to several Denver liposuction surgeons, with people that have specific fat areas and elastic, firm skin getting the most out of it.

For the results to look good, the skin must contract to conform to the new contours without sagging. Since skin needs to be elastic on good liposuction candidates, older people with less elastic skin may not be recommended to have the procedure.

Most patients find that, after the surgery, they can return to their normal routine in a couple weeks, but it may be more if the treated area is larger. But to fully recover from the procedure, it will usually take a patient 2 or 3 months. During the first few weeks of recovery, a compression garment is often worn.

Ultrasound Assisted Liposculpture Surgery

Recently, a new variation on liposuction has appeared that is called Ultrasound-assisted Liposculpture, or "UAL" for short. UAL procedures employ the use of a probe that can give off ultrasonic, high frequency sound. The fat cells next to the sound emitting UAL probe are actually liquified and then removed by suction.

The UAL technique does not produce as much tissue damage or bleeding, so larger amounts of fat can be removed. Compared with traditional liposuction, UAL also produces less bruising. Traditional liposuction sometimes produces irregularities in the contours of the treated areas, but this is much less likely with UAL.

The sound emitting UAL probe cannot be used on all areas of the body and you should check with your surgeon to find if it can be used in your procedure. This technique may also be significantly more expensive, since the equipment used is quite costly. Early UAL machines of the first two generations have been linked to cases of skin damage caused by overly powerful sound waves, but third and later generations do not have this problem.

Often, Denver liposuction surgeons will employ both UAL and traditional equipment in a surgery, depending on the patient and where the treatment area is, so you may find this true in your area also.
